Three stories today, after getting April Fooled by my wife. Not funny to say you’re having a baby while the show is taping. Well, maybe it’s funny.

First, we talk about Steve Phillips going to Fanhouse, and doing a sit-down for the site about his sex addiction. I transcribe/comment on TSB.

Second, we talk about Todd McShay getting blasted by an anonymous source on PFT. Is that kosher for Florio to run an anonymous slamjob like that without getting some other side or corroboration? And who is this scout who wasn’t named? That seems awful cowardly, whether you agree or  not.

Last, we talk about CNN getting crushed in the ratings. Man alive they need another tsunami or something.

Thanks for listening, Fool.

  1. Insofar as tracking which experts pick successfully year to year, I think Football Outsiders does that post draft.

But – and I do draft stuff so I’m keenly aware of this – but you can’t judge most analysis for three or four years. Very few players reach their impact point in the first year or two – the transition is too hard from college to pro. There are too many factors that can slow (or in some cases speed up) a player’s development for good or ill.

The best you can do is watch film, talk to scouts and read up on players and base your opinion on that.

Even then – well you sometimes biff it.

I happen to be a Mayock guy, but you could call ANY draft analyst out and find at least one scout who dislikes him. Hell – what they do calls into question a team’s decision process and attached to that, the scout’s ability.

If your job was on the line each year, a talking head on TV telling everyone you were/are wrong would probably engender some dislike.

Also agree with the point that if you are looking to Kiper/McShay/Mayock for advice on whether to enter the league… you’re not very wise.

Kudos to Dan’s wife for making his heart stop with her prank BTW.

    great show as always.
