ON THE DL
Daulerio talks Olympics and Politics – and Mustaches – on the DL
AJ Daulerio from Deadspin is back to talk about the goings on in the month of August.
We talk about America’s fascination with swimming and track every four years, but never in between. Nick thinks it’s because racing is sport at its basic core - from here to there and see who gets their first. But that doesn’t explain gymnatics’ popularity, so we spin that to a talk about the fame bestowed upon those gals, especially Alicia Sacramone.
We talk Deadspin and get the story on Daulerio’s interview with Sean Salisbury. We also talk about his experience at ESPN’s Monday Night Football press luncheon and exactly how out of place he felt. That leads to an interesting talk about the landscape of sports blogs in conjunction with MSM. With Deadspin at the forefront, how gray is the area between what it was (independent and alternative media) and what it’s becoming (world wide behemoth).
Our show covers a lot, but so does Deadspin, so we talk non-sports topics like the Larry Mendte/Alicia Lane saga. For those around Philly, this story just can’t get any stranger, as now Mendte is admitting to ‘inappropriate’ dealings with Lane. Ah, newspersons.
We end with talk of Kevin Millar’s mustache and wonder if its an homage to Hitler, or silent-film star Charlie Chaplin. Oh, and we also get confirmation that Daulerio will be in the On the DL fantasy league.
