ON THE DL
Replay. Suicide in Soccer. NBA Attendance. Snipers. Mad Men. This Show Was Draining.

We then talk about the many issues with replay. There was a game in the NBA decided by replay last night. The SNF game with Philly and Dallas was, in part, decided by replay that wasn’t overturned even though the replay seemed to clearly show that the call should have been overturned.
Then news that MLB’s GMs don’t want to visit the replay issue this year. So we discuss those three things to try and wrap our heads around the entire issue. Is there too much technology at the games for the human element to succeed anymore? Should we have referees in the sky overseeing the games? Should we have robots?
Musical Interlude...

We also discuss how depression -- if that is the cause of his decision -- is scary in sports. Sports are an escape for some, but a trap for others.
And we talk about the selfishness it takes to commit suicide, especially leaving behind a wife and child. Again, I hope to never have the true understanding of how a disease can take over your mind to the point where you stop caring not just about yourself, but about your loved ones. The situation is awful, and our thoughts to out to the family and friends who are left.
This was not an easy segment, trust me.
Housekeeping:

Nick brings up the terrible attendance for the Sixers and we discuss the comparison from baseball to basketball in attendance and general interest. Basically, it depends on the market and depends how good the team in your market is. But again, I’m not pushing a book on one of the sports.
We mention the execution of the DC Sniper after seven years in what is a seemingly under-reported story.

One last note. Today is Veterans Day. Thank you to all those who serve, especially those Nick and I are friends with and those of you who listen to this show. If we can give you even a few minutes of distraction from what you do every day, it’s worth it for us. For what you do for us, we owe you so much more.
