The perils of doing a daily show. Brian Powell from Awful Announcing was supposed to join us for today’s show, but the DC-area power grid precluded Powell from joining us so we shuffle the deck a bit. Nick and I talk about some of Friday’s stories today (it’s like looking into the FUTURE) and look back to go more in-depth at a few of the topics we’ve discussed this week.

The Soapbox (Sort of): We get more into the Brian Dawkins conversation from yesterday’s show, specifically reacting to his interview on 950ESPN in Philly. Dawk contests that it was a “business decision” for Philadelphia, but not for him. But by all reports, they offered him a contract -- albeit way below market value -- and he went elsewhere. Sounds like business to me. Now, I don’t begrudge him for taking the money elsewhere, but it leads to the point that players seem to always want it both ways (see: Favre, Brett). Again, I respect the man, and his decision, and I understand why he’s upset after spending so much time in one city. But the town is making it sound like our uncle died when in reality, our aunt just kicked him out of the house because she didn’t think he was good anymore (or something like that).

Hey, You Got Email: Powell checks in to let us know he wasn’t abducted by monkeys (that was Nick’s suggestion) so we take the opportunity to MF him some more.

Tech Talk: We discuss a recent BBC article claiming that all my Facebook friends aren’t really my friends, and that people would be lucky to have five people who they consider close. That leads to a conversation about the merits of social media for both business purposes (me) and private catch-up-with-old-friends-and-whatnot purposes (Nick’s mom). Is anything on the internet really private?

We also discuss Darren Rovell’s recent column (in a segment to be named later) about the Minnesota Timberwolves giving back season ticket money to anyone who has lost their job. It’s a great thing and brilliant PR for a team with terrible attendance. Speaking of that, we

discuss the attendance problem in the NBA -- and the TV ratings issues -- to follow up on Monday’s soap box about the NBA bailout. Bill Simmons had an interesting column about the economics of the NBA’s situation which we discuss in the context of asking why we can’t just let failing businesses fail. If the NBA is failing, or certain markets are failing, let them fail.

Political Safari: I debate the merits of my Liberalism (what with my anti-union and pro-free market stances) so we take the time to talk about how great Barack Obama was for going to the Wizards game. Steinz talked with the man who heckled the Prez and we discuss the hilarity of the situation.

Housekeeping: Some more talk about the Kornheiser/Phil’s Mom debate. We’ve gotten feedback on both sides, so we still don’t know what to do. And there is a charitable element involved as well.
