PODCAST: ON THE DL
PODCAST: ON THE DL
We start with, well a quick recap of the last few days, which included 53 of 57 hours awake (including 33 straight), then a 1.5 hour nap before another five awake. So that’s, carry the two, not a lot of sleep. Bowl games.
We talk about the Hot Stove news to come out of last night’s dealings and Nick wonders if more deals are being made this year because everyone is snowed in with the Winter Meetings in Indy. If they were in a more tropical location, would fewer deals get made?
The Soapbox:
We give this soapbox segment, retroactively to Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, who basically said after the Michael Vick signing that ‘this better work.’ Well, the team is winning but Vick hasn’t really been a factor (until last week he hadn’t scored a touchdown) and he’s not doing THAT MUCH in the community. Lurie seemed furious at the signing of Vick, basically making it seem like Reid pushed him for this and if it doesn’t work out, Reid would be hung out to dry with Vick as the albatross around his neck.
So why did Reid get a contract extension in the middle of the season? Is Lurie softening up? Did the fact that all the bad press only lasted a week have anything to do with it? On the field, Reid deserves the extension, but with all the other things swirling around this team, we are surprised -- in light of Lurie’s previous comments -- that this happened during the season.
Speculation Station:
Before we get to some talk about the salaciousness of sports, we take a minute to congratulate Charlie Strong for becoming the head coach at Louisville. He’s just the 11th black head coach in America. That’s not enough.
Nick then adds to our list of ‘greatest moments in show history’ by confusing his Randy’s -- Edsall with Shannon. It’s absolutely wonderful.
We talk about the Tennessee supposedly sending ‘support group’ girls out in the wild to sleep with recruits. Everyone knows what happens on campus, but how far are these schools going to get kids? And how does this correlate to Tiger Woods and the culture of athletes getting whatever they want, whenever they want.
Thanks for listening.
