PODCAST: ON THE DL

Tony Kornheiser is back on the show in what has become less of a recurring interview and more a segment we should call Two Jews Kvetching.

After Tony explains what a ‘docent’ is and how, if he wished, he could have brought home a host of female docents who are in their 70s and 80s, we talk about the Jim Cramer-Jon Stewart feud in the context of asking Tony if he’s ever gotten into a public flap like that.

Sure, we all know Mr. Tony has enemies -- his old radio show was nicknamed Death Star Radio after all -- but has any feud gotten to the point where he had the person on his show, or appeared on their show to battle it out tete-a-tete?

And yes, Tony is still angry and Paul Farhi and Michael Hiestand for the comments they made about him during the first season of Monday Night Football. We poke the bear early on...

To Tony’s reluctance, we talk brackets. Does he know anything or is he like the rest of us just throwing darts at the wall? And does he think the selection committee should find the at-large teams with the best chance to actually win the tournament, or should an at-large bid be a reward for a good regular season? I understand the want to have the most talented field possible, but it seems unlikely a 10-seed from a major conference is going to go on a run and really have a chance to win it all.

But the question remains, is Tony a major-conference elitist? Does he root for the Brett Favre of college basketball?

Speaking of elite, Tony’s alma mater takes on Duke in the first round. As the most famous alum from Binghamton (we debate that), is he going to Greensboro for the game? And what of this “performance” he got wrangled into doing at the University of Delaware? He blames Wilbon.

We talk about Selection Sunday. Listeners want to know how many pizzas John “Junior” Feinstein stole for himself and I ask Tony what it was like to be back at the Post for another night. And why does he still have that office, especially when the Post just move a bunch of web staff over to the print offices. Does he really need the office? If you ask Tony (which I obviously did) he does...for interesting reasons.

Is Wilbon really going to leave the country now that Binghamton got into the tournament before Northwestern. And what of this notion that UCLA is a football school? Tony and Mike talked about that on Talking Points this week and I finally get my chance to get Tony back by asking, “are you INSANE.”

I should probably stop poking the bear so much this episode.

We talk about Tony’s first love -- American Idol. Is it all terrible garbage? Why do we watch it? But we do, so I get Tony’s thoughts on this year’s crop of singers and what he thinks Kara (the new judge) taking so much time away from the other judges.

We tough on the PTI Twitter feed. How has it helped the show? How active is Tony in the Twittering or is it just stuff he yells out and they type on the computer? He compares the Twitter followers to his old radio listeners, saying that the smart ones help write the show for them. Pretty smart if they can sift through all the silly messages.

And all of my bear poking comes back to land right on my head as Kornheiser crushes me like I’ve never been crushed before. Buried like cheese.

So epic.
