PODCAST: ON THE DL

Monday Morning. Welcome back to another week On the DL.

Today we talk about many things, including T.O., A-Rod, big news at The Washington Post, the lack of sleep, people on cell phones and punching cartoons in the face. Let’s get to the rundown.

The Weekend That Was: Terrell Owens signed with Buffalo. Nick and I dissect the move from both the Bill standpoint and the standpoint of T.O. Why does it make sense for the Bills (we think it does) and can it make any sense for Owens?

Speculation Station: We talk about the news that Alex Rodriguez is having hip surgery and will be out for about two months. Why not  have the surgery in October? And what about this blood test he was supposed to take for the WBC. When was that test administered? Did he take it, or was he able to avoid it because he’s not playing in the WBC. Could this surgery be an end around in hopes of avoiding the test (or the results). Is there a conspiracy afoot?

Inside the Press Box: In this case, Inside the News Room. I talk with Washington Post sports editor Jon DeNunzio about the big change taking place at the Post today, with the online sports section merging with the print sports section. What does he expect out of the merger, and what is his new role as Innovations Editor.

We also talk about the news that stories will be rolled out throughout the day, and not put online at once overnight as they have been. Will this cannibalize the newspaper? And what of the big-name columnists swooping in once a week or every few days to give their take on things. Does this move put them, and their hefty salaries, on notice?

Tech Talk: We discuss the Catholic Church’s suggestion that kids give up text messaging and social media for Lent. One of us is going to H-E-double hockey sticks after this segment.

We also talk about the upcoming makeover for Dora the Explorer. She’s all growns up. Is this as big a deal as parents are making it? And why do I want to punch Diego in the face?

The Soapbox: This should have been about punching Diego in the face. But instead my soapbox for the week is about sleep. DYK that if by sleeping 1.5 hours less than my wife every weekday, I’ll be awake for 16.25 DAYS more than her per year. Insane.

Nick’s “Get off my lawn” rant of the week is about people talking on their cell phones while in line. He wants to punch THEM in the face.

Housekeeping: Send us your 60-second rants, and we plug some of the interviews we’ve been doing including one for Fanhouse (link coming soon) and one with 16-year old Alex Reimer. Also, big hoops week coming up for us.

Oh, and I try to figure out a way to give our listeners free beer.

Thanks as always. Sorry the show is so long. Blame Diego.
